Posta

A native macOS mail client for Gmail and Google Workspace.

Posta is a focused inbox app for Mac. Connect one or more Google accounts, read and send mail, manage labels, search your inbox, and get local notifications — all from a fast, native SwiftUI interface.

Features

  • Unified inbox across multiple Gmail and Google Workspace accounts
  • Read, compose, reply, forward, archive, trash, star, and label messages
  • Rich-text compose with attachments
  • Hybrid search (local cache + Gmail API)
  • Background inbox refresh and macOS notifications

Requirements

  • macOS 14 or later
  • A Google account (Gmail or Google Workspace)

How it works

Posta connects directly to your Google account using OAuth 2.0 and the Gmail API. There is no Posta backend server. Your mail is synced between Google and your Mac; cached metadata and message bodies are stored locally on your device.

Posta is developed by Tarik Kavaz.

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 3, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Posta ("the App"), developed by Tarik Kavaz ("we", "us", "our"), handles information when you use the App on macOS.

Summary

  • Posta has no backend server and does not operate a user database.
  • Your email data and OAuth tokens stay on your Mac.
  • We do not sell your data or use third-party analytics in the App.
  • Posta accesses your Google account only to provide mail functionality you request.

Information the App accesses

Google account and Gmail data

When you connect a Google account, Posta uses Google OAuth 2.0 and the Gmail API with the scope https://www.googleapis.com/auth/gmail.modify. This allows the App to read, compose, send, and otherwise manage your email and labels, as needed to provide inbox, compose, search, and sync features.

Depending on how you use the App, this may include:

  • Email addresses and display names associated with your connected accounts
  • Message metadata (subject, sender, recipients, date, labels, read/star state)
  • Message bodies and attachments when you open, compose, or send mail
  • Gmail labels and mailbox structure

Data stored on your device

Posta stores data locally on your Mac, including:

  • OAuth access and refresh tokens in the macOS Keychain
  • Cached mail metadata and message bodies in a local SQLite database
  • App preferences (for example, notification and display settings) in UserDefaults
  • Connected account information needed to operate the App

Local data is stored under your user Library folder, typically: ~/Library/Application Support/Posta/.

macOS permissions (optional)

Posta may request optional macOS permissions to improve the experience:

  • Contacts — to suggest recipients when composing and to show sender avatars. Contact data is read from your Mac's Contacts app and is not uploaded to us.
  • Notifications — to alert you about new mail locally on your Mac.

You can deny or revoke these permissions at any time in macOS System Settings.

How we use information

Information accessed by Posta is used only to:

  • Display and sync your mail
  • Send messages you compose
  • Apply actions you take (archive, trash, star, label changes, etc.)
  • Search your mail
  • Authenticate and maintain your Google account connection
  • Provide local notifications, if enabled

We do not use your mail content for advertising, profiling, or training machine learning models.

What we do not collect

Posta does not:

  • Transmit your mail or tokens to a Posta-operated server
  • Run third-party analytics or crash reporting services (as of this version)
  • Sell, rent, or trade your personal information

Third-party services

Google

Posta communicates directly with Google services (Google Sign-In and the Gmail API) to access your mail at your direction. Google's handling of your data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Posta's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Data retention and deletion

Cached mail data and account settings remain on your Mac until you remove them. You can disconnect a Google account in Posta Settings, which removes associated OAuth tokens from the Keychain. You can delete local cached data by removing the App and its Application Support folder.

Disconnecting Posta does not delete mail stored in your Google account. To revoke the App's access entirely, you can also remove it from your Google Account permissions.

Security

OAuth tokens are stored in the macOS Keychain. Network communication with Google uses HTTPS. Because data stays on your device, you are responsible for securing your Mac (login password, FileVault, etc.).

Children's privacy

Posta is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the latest version. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
